Senior Photo Tips:
With graduation season slowly creeping up on us, I figured it would be the perfect time to start touching base on some special tips just for my seniors out there! Last week we talked about our 8 tips on how to prepare for your future session, these are very much so still going to be applicable to you seniors! So, if you haven’t checked that post out don’t forget to make a visit!
I don’t know how we’ve come this far without a big CONGRATS!! All of your hard work and dedication has paid off and this is the time to celebrate and capture the memories to look back on and smile at all that you’ve accomplished. With that being said, these photos are so special and we want to make sure we do whatever it is we can to make them the best they can be! This may be your very first photoshoot, or maybe you’re used to being in front of the camera, either way you came to the right place to receive guidance on preparation for your graduation session. Let’s not waste any more time and get straight into the tips I have for you!
Plan your outfits!!
I know this may seem like a given, but even if you think you have it all planned out there is still that room of chance that you’re going to try it on the day of your shoot and just not vibe with the fit. SO, lets avoid this scenario from becoming your reality. To avoid an outfit crisis the day of your shoot we are going to first pick out three outfits. These three outfits should fit within the scope of:
· Casual- Something that you would wear on a normal day. If you’re someone who likes to wear sweats and t-shirts on the regular were going to spice it up a bit and trade the sweats out for a pair of jeans, and the t-shirt swapped for a nice-looking shirt!
· Dressy- This could look something like a dress, skirt, blouse, jumpsuit, romper, button up, and even a dark wash of jeans (without holes 😉)
· Personality- An outfit that is going to represent something that makes you, YOU! This could be sportswear, something that showcases a hobby you love, or anything that could represent your lifestyle! Props are great for this one!
These three categories for outfit choices are a great place to begin! Before you leave this blog post in rushing excitement and don’t finish reading the rest that I have to share with you, I’m pleading you stay!! These next few tips can truly help shape those outfits into their best potential. Now that we have an idea of the styles you’re looking for, there’s a few more things to keep in mind while browsing your closet:
Location is Everything!!
If you have an idea of where it is that your photo session will take place utilize this information to your advantage! You can have a super cool outfit on, but if you show up to a location where it makes no sense…well then, it’s really going to show in your photos and you’re going to look pretty silly! No worries, if you kept reading then I gotchu!! I won’t let you look silly! I have created mood boards to help guide you on what clothing choices look best where.
Neutrals, Neutrals, Neutrals!
You are the sole focus of these photos so let’s keep it that way! Neutral colors are the BEST! Maybe I’m a little opinionated with this subject, but honestly you can never go wrong with some neutrals. Keeping your wardrobe choices earthy and neutral will not only help with keeping that attention on you, but it will also be beneficial with how color bounces off of the light and onto your skin. This especially goes for those with a very light/ light complexion. If you are wearing a bright red shirt and the sun is shining, odds are it will reflect onto you and give your face a hue of red color that is unwanted. Again, keep in mind your location. You don’t want to choose colors that are exact to your surroundings. If you’re in a green area (woodsy, botanical) you may want to choose a different earthy tone than green. You want to stand out from your background, not become one within it!
Now that you know what kind of outfits to choose, you’re keeping location in mind, and you know the magic of some neutrals…give yourself more than a week before the photoshoot to get everything together. To make sure that you absolutely LOVE the outfit choices that you’ve made, wear each around for a few hours! Let yourself get comfortable in your selections. Make sure you are confident moving around and feel like yourself in them. All tips aside, the most important thing about this photoshoot is that you feel confident, comfortable, and have a great time! Congratulations to all of you hard working, talented seniors! If you stuck around to read these tips and you aren’t a senior…welp you’re a real one! Thank you all for tuning in, I look forward to chatting again next week! ♥
